Interior-Design-Schools.us Insiders Speak on Job Market for Landscape Architects

Insiders at Interior-Design-Schools.us reveal that the saturated market for interior designers has a few dry spots where specialty design opportunities are flourishing.

FLORIDA — April 18th, 2012 — College insiders at Interior-Design-Schools.us are encouraging students with a passion for design and the great outdoors to consider following a career path that will lead them to a fulfilling career in outdoor interior designs. Studying outdoor architecture at an interior design school can provide students with the opportunity to branch out to the outdoors and capture a niche part of the market by reducing competition and increasing income potential while still doing the work they love.

While the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) estimates that interior design school graduates go on to earn about $44,000 annually, landscape architects are earning $62,000 per year.

Working as a landscape architect doesn’t mean slaving in the hot sun, either. They spend about as much time in the office as interior designers and sometimes more. “Landscape architects spend most of their time in comfortable offices. The remainder of their time is spent at jobsites. Most work full time, and many work more than 50 hours per week,” the BLS reports.

A recent article about studying outdoor décor at interior design school points to labor statistics that show interior designers are choosing to specialize in their industry.  “According to the recent estimates by the Bureau of Labor Statistics, 30% of interior design school graduates work in a specialized field of interior design. They also estimate that 14% of those are working in architectural and landscape architectural roles.  Another 9% work in furnishings as a specialty, including outdoor furniture,” the article said.

Author Lewis Bauer says that interior design schools are offering more in the way of specialty training for students who wish to get in on the growing markets. “Once upon a time, an interior designer worked exclusively with a structure’s interior spaces. Now that interior design and architecture have grown to be such close industries, it has become important for students to consider options that may bring them the most lucrative job opportunities after graduating from an interior design school.”

In addition to articles and news meant to help future interior design students and parents make the best decisions about their education, Interior-Design-Schools.net shares their network of interior design schools. The network is free for students who are interested in talking with an interior design school about specialty programs and success rates.
